The anti-corporate, environmentally conscious, pro-grassroots capitalists at The Blackspot Anticorporation, via Adbusters Magazine, have produced reasonably priced kicks, knocking off corporate Nike and Converse designs. The sneakers, according to Adbusters, is one way to blackspot traditional capitalism, using Treasure Island's cursed literary device.
Because the Blackspot name and logo have been open-sourced and trademark free, the team encourages other independent, grassroots businesses to accommodate the campaign. So far, they've sold over 25,000 pairs of shoes all clad in 100% organic hemp and 70% biodegradable rubber soles and car tires. The "Unswoosher" and the "Blackspot Sneaker" are hand-painted, stitched and glued, and processed by sweat-free Portuguese workers.
Still skeptical where your eighty bucks goes? The website even includes a breakdown of each material, production, labor, marketing and tax price. The shoes don't look half-bad and it's a no-brainer fashion statement (if you're into that).

This post seems like something I would read out of GOOD magazine. I took your recommendation on the magazine and went out and bought one. I haven't read too much of it yet, only a bit. I hadn't really noticed it at first but you used alot of facts and numbers in this post. Yes, good key journalism details to look out for. Anyway, I'd like to see how these shoes look on...but $80 is alittle pricy for me. But if it saves the planet then why not.
Well, I'm not buying them anytime soon actually. Another way to purchase "planet-saving" kicks is buying used/recycled/vintage shoes. They always look worn out and, well, vintage.
