Not About Fugazi

Tonight I had a very fun dinner with a fantastic DC band called Jukebox the Ghost, who I saw opening for Tokyo Police Club and Ra Ra Riot a couple weeks ago at DC's Rock and Roll Hotel. I don't remember ever being that impressed by an opening band, so I took advantage of my dwindling time here in DC to chat with them about DC's music scene (post-Fugazi, post-dance punk), the proposed all ages ban on venues, what it's like being compared to Coldplay, and the possible indie revival of Hanson. I will be sure to write up our interview for Forest Fire's next print issue, but until that happens I wanted to give them another Google hit and a little Forest Fire love. If you haven't heard a good pop song in awhile, you'll do well by checking out their myspace and listening to Hold It In and Good Day at the very least. Don't let their pop sensibilities fool you: these boys are quite capable of rocking the fuck out live, so here's hoping they'll be able to make it out to California now that they've all graduated from college with their useless journalism and biology degrees.

To end the evening, we walked around DC's Chinatown, a pretty unique place as it has an Urban Outfitters and an Ann Taylor Loft. I gave Ben and Tommy (pianist and guitarist, respectively; both sing) a choice of background for my picture: Bed Bath and Beyond, or Ann Taylor Loft. Here's what they went with:

Let's wish them well on their tour.

I've been listening to "Hold It In" by Jukebox the Ghost for awhile now. It's the only song I've heard by them, but I like it alot. I was glad to read of a band that I was familiar with even if it only is connected to that one song. And I must say, it is a very pop sounding song, but great nevertheless. This article gives me hopes about the band. I usually tend to disregard most bands for only having one good hit. But reading your review on how good Jukebox the Ghost is live, it makes me wonder how they will fare in the future music biz.
