She'll sing for you, if you listen.
Let me introduce to you, Basia Bulat. She has an awesome name and currently resides in Montreal, Canada where she works and records with her band. Her newest album Oh, My Darling was released April 30th. No love for America, though, as it was only released in the UK and Europe. Well, there are always imports and Basia Bulat is definitely worth checking out. Here's why.
Basia possesses strong and smooth folk/country vocals along with pretty solid song writing. I absolutely love her song, "I Was a Daughter." Her voice wavers with perfection between notes, low and high. A warm piano accompanies the melody. The clapping that kicks in at the intro is great and makes the song instantly fresh. And don't forget about the strings - layers and layers of them. Overall, it's a well-crafted and well-produced song and you can go check it out at her myspace.
She is currently touring in Europe. Let's hope she receives more recognition from the States so she can come around here and sing her beautiful songs to us.
