Nina Simone's alive, and I know it.

It's always nice to listen to remixes that live up to their originals or give new life to them. The Postal Service give Nina Simone a proper treatment in their remix of "Little Girl Blue," off Verve Remixed, Vol. 3, a compilation of verve remixes by musicians ranging from RJD2 to the Junior Boys. In the track, Simone's voice is slightly haunting besides Jimmy Tamborello's catchy electronic beats, but the combination makes for a great revival of an old classic. Imagine Nina Simone, emerging from whatever afterlife she's in, dusting off the microphone for an encore performance beyond the grave. The beat is infectiously catchy, with signature Postal Service blips and bloops gently propelling her voice. It's a remix that builds upon the original and doesn't sound cheesy. Even my roommate, who's a big west-coast gangster rap guy, was boppin' his head to the beat. The song is universal.
